Signalbase is hardly a pioneer of Alternative Investment consulting. Our charter does not date back hundreds of years, or to the day the first hedge fund was formed. Many companies and individuals have helped fund managers and administrators navigate various challenges before us. Consequently, launching a business in a market with established companies comes with additional challenges beyond the standard entrepreneurial set. Not only must we serve our customers fairly, deliver our services as expected, on time, and manage our finances, but we must also work to establish our name and brand in our industry in contrast to other, more established competitors.

In 2003, two silicon valley entrepreneurs founded a company to commercialize electric vehicles; they called it Tesla Motors. By 2009, the company had raised $187 Million and delivered just 147 cars. Today, Tesla has a value of approximately $36 Billion and has produced 125,000 vehicles. So how did Tesla succeed in such a mature industry? They did not invent the electric car, and clearly other automotive companies had ample resources to do what Tesla was doing.

When Telsa set out, they did not try to compete with industry leaders like Ford and General Motors by producing an average, run of the mill commuter car. Instead, Tesla built the Roadster: an expensive, high-end model aimed at wealthy customers. By targeting a very specific customer, Telsa was able to build a reputation as a capable automotive company, an energy innovator, and a master at aesthetic design.

Much like Tesla, Signalbase started by focusing on some of the biggest names in Hedge Funds. We assist multi-billion dollar asset managers with middle and back office solutions to make them more efficient. We propose and build solutions around complex derivatives such as variance swaps and inflation products, structured assets like aircraft leases and mortgages, and distressed credit instruments including revolving credit facilities and term loans. We create solutions for investors to increase communication and transparency. If it is related to alternative fund back or middle office, chances are, we have done it.
